Oh I do remember these guys. Thanks for bringing back some memories.
ReplyDeleteI actually saw them once more after this trip. It was at the Disney Company stock holder meeting in Philadelphia. Also got to meet Roy E. Disney and have my picture taken with him. And oh yes, we put Michael Eisner on the path out the door. :-)
DeleteThat is so very cool!! I love Ellen's Mickey :-) Of course hers is probably the only one I KNEW whose it was :-) I wonder where all these Mickey's are today.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I did not document the decorators of the pieces and only remember a few of the above.
DeleteThe one with the photo of Walt on Mickey's shirt was done by the late Wayne Allwine, who was the long time voice of Mickey Mouse (and married to Russi Taylor, the voice of Minnie).
Three below that - the Mickey with the cowboy hat with the logo of the All Star Game was created by Major League Baseball.
You identified the Ellen Degeneris Mickey
The last one in the group - wearing the coonskin cap and featuring grapes - was created by Fess Parker.
Anyone else remember any of the others?
Great shots! I always loved these Mickeys! They actually had a few of them on display for awhile here in Denver but they got vandalized after the first couple of days and I didn't have the heart to go see them like that! Thanks for sharing your pics! :)
ReplyDeleteHow awful that they were vandalized.
DeleteI wonder if they were restored and if we will ever get to see them again.
Great shots! What a display! I couldn't pick just one favorite--I love them all! Wish they'd bring them back!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing and for joining in The Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop fun!
My favorite has always been the Wayne Allwine one. (The one with the photo of Walt)
DeleteI don't have a favourite - they are all incredible - I would love to have seen them! It would be really interesting to know if they have been kept together as a collection to be displayed again - Mickey's 85th birthday must be coming up! :)
ReplyDeleteNow that I think of it ... I think they were auctioned off after they finished traveling. Not sure, but I will try to find out.
DeleteNever got to see these in person, but I do enjoy seeing the pictures again! The Mickey from Wayne is also my favorite, Mark. Although it all started with a mouse, none of it would have been possible without the creative genius of Walt Disney!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these with us today - it brought a smile to my face :)
Some were very clever - there were quite a few that I liked. I wish I remembered who did more of them than just the few I mentioned.
DeleteI love these- something that we'd missed!! (I love "Ellenland" :D) Wouldn't it be terrific if these were recycled with each landmark birthday??
ReplyDeleteI think they had been auctioned off for charity, but I am not sure. Haven't been able to find anything about that yet so I may be misremembering.
DeleteThese are such fantastic statues. I wish that they would have made small, collectible replicas of the statues. I definitely would have bought a couple.
ReplyDeleteThey did the same thing with the Mickeys for the All-Star baseball game in Anaheim a couple of years ago. I remember dragging my kids around the city so that we could see them all. They were not too pleased with me.
Pin trading was still a huge thing when this took place. Today they would probably issue small versions of the statues.
DeleteSo many great Mickeys! Must have been amazing to see in person.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to see them twice - in WDW and at the Disney stockholder meeting in Philadelphia. :-)
DeleteI remember seeing them at the Magic Kingdom. They are beautiful ,I really enjoyed seeing them again. There's one at Yankee Stadium, Mickey in Pinstripes.. Have you seen it?
ReplyDeleteAnd just why would I be found anywhere near "that" ballpark in the Bronx?
Delete(Let's Go Mets!)
