Day 4
With the weekend black out on Main Gate passes at the Magic Kingdom over, today we will go there. We want to make sure we get there early enough for lunch at Be Our Guest. As always since it opened about a year ago, we have been unable to get reservations for dinner there, but each trip we have managed to have lunch - at least once.
We decide to travel to the Magic Kingdom via resort bus, as this is more convenient than driving over, parking and then taking a tram and either the monorail or ferry over the the park. Once we arrive at the Magic Kingdom, we take the train around to New Fantasyland where we use the Magic Band kiosk to see what FastPass+ we can obtain. Today we are able to get for The Little Mermaid, Jungle Cruise and Buzz Lightyear.
We now walk over towards Be Our Guest - with a brief stop at the souvenir tent of course, and are told that it is about an hour and a half wait for lunch. We get on line, and as expected, we wait much less than the 90 minutes we had been told. Due to the heat and the sun, Cast Members are there with ice water and umbrellas to give out while we are waiting.
While we wait, we are also able to see the progress being made on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride which will open some time next year.
Once inside we step up to the ordering kiosk - with our RFID rose - and order our lunches. The French Onion Soup is a must, and I split a roast beef sandwich with my daughter. My wife gets a salad. We choose, as always, the Rose Room to eat in. We pass on dessert this visit.
Once lunch is over, it is almost time to use our FastPass+ for the Little Mermaid attraction - and we wait about 10 minutes until we are able to go in.
We now walk over to Adventureland and the Jungle Cruise.
A classic scene ... (sing along - you know the words) ... They haven't gotten the point yet, but they will get it in the end! That deer on the right has been here since the Magic Kingdom first opened. Yes, it is a '71 Impala!
Meet Smiley and Ginger. That's Smiley on the left ... he's always looking for a hand-out. Ginger's on the right but be careful ... Ginger snaps! (Groan all you want - you know there are more coming!)
Of course the highlight of the cruise has always been Schweitzer Falls and the rare opportunity to see the backside of water!
We steam into the abandoned (?) temple ...
... and what do we see when we emerge? The elephants' secret bathing lagoon. But don't worry, it's okay to look ... they have their trunks!
Back in the park, we see it decorated for Halloween.
Back to Tomorrowland, we take our mandatory trip aboard the Peoplemover, killing a bit of time until we can ride Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin.
We discuss where to have dinner tonight, and decide to head over to Old Key West Resort and Olivia's. It's time for us to head out of the park but decide to stop for a few moments to watch the daily flag retreat.
We arrive at Olivia's with no reservations so we have to wait a while, but as usual, the dinner proves worth the wait. After dinner we are dropped back at our room where we decide which park we want to spend tomorrow at.
